Pallet Storage

« Back to Glossary Index

Pallet storage is bulk inventory storage on standard pallets, typically used for wholesale, B2B, or high-volume SKUs. Pallets sit in racking or on the warehouse floor and are moved by forklift, which makes them efficient for full cases and freight but slower for picking single units. Each pallet usually holds one SKU or one lot, which keeps counting and stock rotation simple.

Pallet Storage vs Shelf Storage

Pallet storage suits inventory that arrives and leaves in bulk: wholesale and retail orders, slow-moving stock, and reserve inventory that replenishes the pick area. Shelf and bin storage suits inventory picked one unit at a time for ecommerce orders. Many D2C brands use both, with reserve stock on pallets and a smaller pick quantity on shelves that is refilled from the pallets as it sells.

How Pallet Storage Is Billed

Warehouses usually bill pallet storage per pallet, per month, based on the number of pallet positions your inventory occupies. Pallet size and height, stacking and long-term storage can change the rate, and receiving and outbound handling are usually billed separately. When you compare quotes, check how each provider counts partial pallets and when the monthly count is taken.

Ottawa Logistics stores pallet, case and unit-level inventory within structured pallet storage and distribution operations.
